Soy Gastón González, Ingeniero Civil Geotécnico de Profesión.
Por mi trabajo he visitado distintas faenas mineras hasta alturas superior a 5000 m, siempre he tenido una inquietud respecto a los cambios fisiológicos adaptativos del ser humano ante un ambiente donde el oxígeno en el aire es significativamente menor y cómo podía ayudar la respiración para minimizar los efectos adversos en el corto plazo y el impacto a la salud de exposición intermitente a grandes alturas.
Por otra parte, durante gran parte de mi vida he tenido la curiosidad de conocer los beneficios para la salud ligados a diversas corrientes filosóficas orientales y occidentales. Practiqué por aproximadamente cinco años Taijiquan y luego me vi atraído por variadas prácticas meditativas, donde muchas veces la respiración es un tema central. En esta búsqueda encontré por azar el libro Oxygen Advantage de Patrick McKeown, al principio era escéptico en la teoría y práctica del método, resultaba contraintuitivo, sin embargo, después de recurrir a distintas fuentes, incluso a los trabajos del Dr Buteyko, llegué a la conclusión que el método tiene una base científica sólida y que los beneficios para la salud son enormes. Desde ese momento empecé a incorporar los ejercicios de la respiración funcional a mi vida diaria y he visto cambios significativos. En un afán de compartir mi experiencia me certifiqué como Instructor de Respiración Funcional del método Oxygen Advantage®. Es urgente cambiar ciertos paradigmas y repensar la forma en que respiramos, no resulta exagerado, que este tema es tan importante para la salud como evitar el sedentarismo y la obesidad.

I am Gastón González, Geotechnical Engineer by profession.
Through my work I have visited various mining operations at altitudes exceeding 5000 m. I have always been concerned about the physiological adaptive changes of humans in an environment where the oxygen in the air is significantly lower, and how breathing could help minimize the adverse effects in the short term and the health impact of intermittent exposure to high altitudes.
For much of my life I've been curious about the health benefits associated with various Eastern and Western philosophical traditions. I practiced Taijiquan for about five years and then became interested in various meditative practices, where breathing is often a central pillar. In this search, I found Patrick McKeown's book, Oxygen Advantage. Initially, I was skeptical of the method's theory and practice; it seemed counterintuitive. However, after consulting several sources, including the work of Dr. Buteyko, I concluded that the method has a solid scientific basis and that the health benefits are enormous. From that moment on, I began incorporating functional breathing exercises into my daily life and have seen significant changes. Eager to share my experience, I became a certified Functional Breathing Instructor in the Oxygen Advantage® method. It is urgent to change certain paradigms and rethink the way we breathe; it is not an exaggeration to say that this issue is as important for health as avoiding sedentary lifestyles and obesity.
