About Me
Brodie Cambourne MSc BSc (Anatomy Physiology)
I am an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and have been working in the area of brain development ,brain health and human movement for over 30 years.
During this time I have worked with babies through to 100 year old clients. For the past 10 years, I have been working in the area of exercise for Parkinson's Disease, Stroke Rehabilitation, PTSD , Anxiety and Depression.
I completed a Masters ( Hons) thesis in 2001 thesis focussed on childhood obesity prevention using exercise and developing health literacy for families.
My early programs focussed on assisting parents/ carers of babies with teaching their children how to read and move and also encouraged writing and drawing of their movements and adventures.
The use of drawing, reading, talking and discussing healthy activities resulted in the development of confidence in movement and learning about health for children and their families
My passion has always been to assist people of all ages to increase their confidence to learn and read so they could make informed decisions about their health.
I have always been passionate about the history of human movement, evolutionary development and how the physiology of the human body has functioned for many thousands of years.
This is what lead me to wanting to understand the development of breathing patterns and the possible harm that dysfunctional breathing is having on human development and humans as they age.
For the first 20 years of my working life as an Exercise Physiologist, I worked with children and new born babies and their carers.
This enabled me to observe the curiosity and confidence of how small humans move their bodies and develop the skill of language and talking.
This also enabled me to observe physical development of posture, breathing patterns and emotional development of humans
What I have learned over 30 years, is that the curiosity to learn as children diminishes as we grow older resulting in many adults not feeling confident in their own movements and many adults not feeling capable to learn new information or movements. Somewhere many of us lost the confidence to learn about health and wait for instruction for all our movements, when as kids we automatically trusted our own bodies.
With this decrease in movement, many adults have altered their natural breathing patterns.
I have now been applying the what I learned through my observation of babies to adults.
I apply early foundational movements to adults and now apply the Oxygen Advantage breathing course to these movements
My movement programs include many older adults, some in their 80s and 90s who are achieving health benefits from learning strategies for managing their ‘exercise and functional movement , functional breathing and metabolic health.
I have been involved in ultra marathon kayak paddling and
have participated in numerous ultramarathon events as an open female paddler.
I have been involved in competitive aquatic sports for over 40 years and have competing with Surf clubs in boat rowing and ski paddling during the 1990s on the NSW South Coast.
I began to focus on flat water paddling as a great way to maintain fitness and have won the open female paddler in some of the longest flat water paddling races in Australia
I am now applying the Oxygen Advantage principles to my paddling and all aspects my working life and continue to learn about the importance of breathing and breath control through a number breathwork instructors
