About Me
I’m originally from the Alentejo, and although I’m a dentist, I’ve always felt that health goes far beyond teeth. Very early in my career, I realised how connected everything is: the way we breathe, the way we think, how we deal with stress, how we sleep — it all shapes our overall wellbeing.
During my doctoral studies at ICBAS, I came across a sentence that profoundly marked me:
“The doctor who knows only medicine, doesn’t truly know medicine.”
This became one of my guiding principles. It pushed me to look beyond the traditional boundaries of dentistry and to keep learning in every direction that could help me understand people more fully. That’s why I’ve dedicated time to training in coaching, communication, leadership, and other areas that enrich the way I teach, practice, and relate to others.
As a university lecturer and researcher, I’ve worked on understanding the risk factors associated with dental caries — including oral breathing, which has a significant impact on oral development and general health. This scientific background brought me even closer to functional breathing, this time supported not only by intuition and clinical experience but also by solid evidence.
Over the years, I’ve built an approach that blends dentistry, physiology, coaching and human behaviour. What truly transformed my work was realising that breathing is a powerful, simple and universally accessible tool — one that can improve wellbeing, emotional regulation, performance and quality of life.
Today, as an Oxygen Advantage instructor, I bring together everything I’ve learned from clinical practice, research and personal development. I work with people who want to breathe better, manage stress more effectively, improve focus, boost physical performance or simply feel more balanced in their daily lives. My style is practical, clear and human-centred, because I believe that even the smallest shifts — like changing the way we breathe — can create meaningful transformation.
And I keep learning every day. That sentence from ICBAS isn’t just an academic motto; it is a philosophy I live by. The more I learn, the more I understand how much there is still to explore — and that curiosity is what drives me forward.
