About Me
John Canty, a retired engineer having worked in manufacturing and life sciences industries where the stress and demands of everyday life were always a constant.
Keenly aware of the importance that work life balance has in maintaining a holistic lifestyle, John has made the Martial Arts a central part of that strategy.
With over 40 years’ experience in Taekwon-Do and more recently exploring the Russian martial art of Systema, which emphasises the freedom of movement, fluidity and the power of the breath in developing self-growth and healing, focusing on inner development and courage in our personal and professional lives.
John began his Oxygen Advantage journey 6 years ago after reading James Nestor’s book ‘Breath – The new science of a lost art’. It was crossroads in his life. He was looking for something that was missing for so long, the power of the breath.
John was a prime candidate, suffering with chronic nasal congestion, snoring, sleep apnoea. Spinal stenosis, bulging discs, he was definitely in need of a physical and emotional intervention.
Since embracing the concepts and practices of the Oxygen advantage program, he has almost completely eliminated the effects of his previous ailments through nasal breathing and development of core stability through proper activation of the diaphragm with functional movement.
John now uses his unique personal journey combined with Oxygen advantage techniques to work with people from a range of backgrounds, including GAA, martial arts and weight training as well as those experiencing anxiety and chronic stress.
‘When we change how we breathe, we change our lives.’ Let the journey begin
