About Me
Dr Tim Hughes is an anaesthetic registrar, functional breathwork instructor and Advanced Oxygen Advantage Instructor based in Sheffield, UK.
Working for many years in anaesthesia and intensive care has given Tim a detailed understanding of respiratory physiology, stress and the way our nervous system responds under pressure. But his interest in breathing became much more personal after experiencing the effects of chronic stress and anxiety himself while balancing a demanding medical career with family life.
Discovering functional breathing and the Oxygen Advantage approach changed the way Tim thought about stress, performance and wellbeing. Rather than viewing breathing simply as something that happens automatically, he began to understand how the way we breathe can influence how we feel, sleep, recover and respond when life becomes demanding.
Tim trained with Patrick McKeown and the Oxygen Advantage team in Galway and now works with individuals who want to improve their breathing, reduce unnecessary physiological stress and feel more in control of their response to pressure.
His approach is practical, evidence-informed and firmly grounded in physiology. Sessions may include nasal breathing, breathing biomechanics, reduced breathing exercises, CO₂ tolerance work and simple techniques that can be used during everyday life.
Alongside individual coaching, Tim co-founded The Breath Doctors, providing educational and experiential programmes for doctors, healthcare professionals and people working in other high-pressure environments.
His aim is simple: to help people understand their breathing, train it effectively and develop tools that make demanding lives feel more manageable.
