Jesse Engelbrecht is a former world Top 50 squash player and South African #1 who competed on the professional tour for over a decade before transitioning into full-time coaching. While guiding athletes on court, he began to notice a recurring challenge: the gap between practice and consistent performance in competition. Much of this, he discovered, came down to the mental game—and especially to how athletes breathed under pressure.
Motivated by this insight, Jesse pursued a master’s degree in sport psychology to deepen his understanding of performance and resilience. Combining his academic knowledge with first-hand experience as a player and coach, he developed a practical approach that blends modern psychology with timeless philosophies such as Stoicism and Buddhism. His work focuses on tools athletes can use in the moment: visualization, breathwork, and mindfulness, alongside frameworks that build acceptance, focus, and clarity.
As a certified Oxygen Advantage® instructor, Jesse integrates functional and performance breathing into all aspects of his coaching. He recognized early on that poor breathing habits often limited athletes’ ability to perform when it mattered most. By addressing this, he helps athletes regulate stress, stay present, and access their true potential.
Based in Farnham, United Kingdom, Jesse works with athletes worldwide through both online and face-to-face coaching. He enjoys working with juniors on the college pathway, professionals chasing consistency, and adult athletes who want to compete with confidence and joy.
